Description: Science is one of the most omnipresent fields of study and is much more than a body of language. We can see its importance in every single aspect of human life-from constructing buildings to just cooking a simple dish.
Albert Einstein, one of the greatest thinkers once said- “I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious.” Millions saw the apple fall, but only Newton asked “Why?”This thirst for knowledge is what led our Indian mathematicians Aryabhatta and Ramanujan and physician Shushruta to discover their theories and concepts.
Therefore, to encourage the science temperament in Loreto students, a Science fest- the’ LC Eureka Fest 2017’ was organised on August 18 2017 by the Science department of the school. This was also a perfect way to celebrate the 175 years anniversary, of our beloved foundress Venerable Mary Ward, being a pioneer in the field of education as she always believed that “Women in time to come will do much”.
This fest had two Interschool events and rest were class activities to ensure maximum participation of the students.
Interschool Quiz-- Shooting Stars was organised for students of classes IX and X.The theme for Quiz was SCIENCE,ENVIORNMENT and TECHNOLOGY. Fourteen Schools participated in this event ,out of which best four teams went in for final rounds. Quiz Master for this event was Miss Zeba Ashan - Mtech student with Teri University, who conducted the quiz smoothly. Mrs Chaterjee who is a retired science teacher was the Guest of Honour and she motivated her students to increase their level of interest in the field of Science. The team from DPS Vasant Kunj won the first prize and team from St. Columbas were the runners up.
An Interschool Science Symposium-TechTonic was organised for students of classes XI and XII.Science lovers from all across 13 schools were invited, to take part, share knowledge and prove their mettle. They had to choose a category from the given six topics, which included greatly debated upon topics like Bioethics of Organ Transplantation and Chemical Warfare. Each team consisted of a speaker, interjector and an audio-visual presenter. Overall the team from Army Public School Dhaula Kuan were judged as the Best Team.
The judges for this event were Dr G Abraham –the Principal scientist and faculty member of division of Microbiology, Indian Agriculture Research Institute New Delhi and Dr Som Mondal-Assistant Professor in Department of Energy and Environment, Teri University.
All the presentations shown were eye-catching and interesting. The speakers gave excellent points, and though many may have spoken on the same subject, their opinions differed greatly. The interjection rounds were equally exciting, as tough questions were asked-and tougher comebacks made. To make it more exciting, an informal round of interjections was also allowed at the end.
Students of all classes V upwards had made models (working or non working) on concepts of science which were displayed in the open Hall of the school. This plethora of models were well appreciated by all the visitors.
The Junior School classes organised various activities for students in their respective classrooms and a special assembly to celebrate science in all its elements.
It was a funfilled day where students understood the concepts of science with simple activities of science in SCIENCE IS FUN corner.
It was first time the school organised a multidiscipline Interschool competitions along with model Display which was very well contested by all the teams.
