Description: The school achieved another milestone with the inauguration of the new language lab by Sr Anita M. Braganza, the Provincial Leader South Asia along with Sr Monica, Director Mary Ward Social Centre, Kolkata, on 25 July 2017. The lab aims to develop proficiency among the learners and offers tremendous scope in terms of content teaching expertise, methodology and continuous evaluation for both English and Hindi.
It is a blend of Instructor Led Training (ILT) with a Computer Based Training (CBT) practice and evaluations. A special prayer service was organized in the Mary Ward Auditorium invoking God’s blessings for both the teachers and the students engaged in dispensing and imbibing effective communication skills. A humourous poem highlighting the beauty and absurdity in the same vein of the English Language drew peals of laughter from the audience. A dance performance to the composition of the renowned Hindi poet Gulzar was followed by a captivating enactment of a scene from George Bernard Shaw’s ‘Pygmalion’ which engaged the audience.
A quiz ‘Fun with Languages’ offered English and Hindi brainteasers like homophones, idioms, palindromes etc. which received an enthusiastic response from the students of the middle, senior and senior secondary school. Sr Anita congratulated the Principal, Sr Mercia, in her concluding address to the school, praising this new facility working towards a better and more efficient acquisition and maintenance of language skills. The eminent guests were then escorted to the lab where they were acquainted with the equipment and thereaftergiven a brief demonstration of the interactive session with the students, using the audio-visual installation.
