Description: The Walsh House special assembly was held on 11th October, 2018 in the Mary Ward auditorium to honour Mother Agnes Walsh the founder of Loreto Delhi. Since 11th October was also declared by the U.N. as the “International day of the Girl child”, conducting the Walsh house special assembly on the same day simply enhanced the significance of celebrating the Loreto spirit all over the world. The assembly commenced with the lighting of the lamp by our Principal, Sister Archana, Mrs Simi Joseph, the Walsh house mistresses Mrs Ruchi Goel, Ms Deanne Middleton, Mrs Michelle Domingo, the prefect and vice-prefect of Walsh house junior section, as the choir melodiously sang the hymn, ”This little light of mine” Thereafter, the students of Walsh house, through a short enactment ,unfolded the beautiful story of how Loreto Delhi came into existence through the vision and steadfast faith of Mother Agnes Walsh. Linking the present day need of planting saplings in our environment, the play depicted how the roots of Loreto have spread far and wide not only in India but also worldwide. The role- play brought to life the real scenes and photographs shown through power point presentations of the time when the school first began at 28, The Mall, where classes were held in tents with around 250 students, under the guidance of Mother Agnes and Mother Francis Clare, who became the first Principal of our school and later shifted to its present location. The prayerful dance of the students in the song, “You raise me up” portrayed the struggle and despair faced by Mother Agnes and the Sisters who worked closely with her, yet putting all her faith and hope in the Lord. The story culminated with the message of Mother Agnes to all the students in the audience, “Cheerful endeavor spells success” meaning, we can overcome all adversities with a positive attitude. The play ended with a lively Irish dance, “ Stand together” which embodied the love and unity of Loreto schools and institutions all around the world. Finally, Sister Archana addressed the gathering where she reiterated the message of Mother Agnes that, with a positive attitude in life and hard work, success is sure to follow. Last but not the least, Sister Archana congratulated and appreciated all the efforts put in by all the Walsh house students to make the special assembly a grand success.
