Description: A webinar on 17th February 2018 was conducted by Sr. Cecilia O Dwyer and Sr. Cynthia CJ, at 10:30am in ASL lab. In which our Principal, Sr. Archana , Mrs. Priya, Mrs. Stella, Mrs. Ranjan, Mrs Andrews, Mrs Kanchan, Mr. Ashish and Mr. Pramod were present to attend the webinar.
Sr. Cecilia started with a talk on the SDG goals and the problems faced in achieving these goals in different countries.
Sr. Cynthia then gave a number of ways in which we could move towards the progress of these goals.
• To create awareness about the goals, to educate at the grass root levels and to connect it with local problems and people.
• To take up international dates and celebrate it with schools, family, work place
• Three kinds of campaign was specified that is undertaken by the UN every year –
UN together campaign started to respect and care for refugee and migrants
Unite campaign started by UN secretary general 2008 to increase public awareness with political resources.
Stand for human rights campaign that was started by UN on the 70th anniversary of Human rights to create awareness of birth rights and to make sure that everyone has the access to these rights. This can be done in school for eg. by taking the human rights pledge in school , recording it and putting it on social media , the same can be done in our communities , residential areas etc.
• Orange the world is another way in which the UN takes up advocacy for violence against women. It can be observed on the 25th of every month wherein students can be encouraged to bring in orange flower or wear something orange as a mark of respect for women worldwide.
• Youth action for human rights was highlighted at the local national and international level where the three functions of creating awareness, advocacy and sharing were emphasized. There was also a stress on past students associations working in this regard.
• Involvement and practicality is the urgent need of the hour.
• When hopes for the future were discussed Sr. Cecelia spoke about networking and communication as the most important tool to achieve immediate and fruitful results for achieving Mary Ward vision.
• She also stressed on the fact that global and local action should go together.
• Moreover working with the government, to frame laws and policies for making this endeavour a success.
The concluding message given by Sr. Cynthia was very thought provoking in which she stated that everyone must be carried forward with dignity and pride and nobody must be left behind.
